Hundreds of the Occupy Wall Street protesters marched to 1 Police Plaza in New York Friday evening—the largest crowd so far in the days-long demonstration that has centered on everything from financial greed to the Afghan War. The march to police headquarters, located about a half mile from the downtown park where the protesters have gathered, kicked off around 5:30 p.m. as demonstrators yelled, "End the war!" and "Tax the rich!" before settling down in silence when they arrived at 1 Police Plaza and camping out. The demonstration grew in size after 80 people were arrested last Saturday and video surfaced online of police using pepper spray on the protesters. There were even rumors Friday that the band Radiohead would perform, although those rumors were shot down by the evening.

Wars Costs $11.6bn A Month, Says Pentagon -- Sydney Morning Herald

Wayne Rooney says Manchester United are learning to play the Barcelona way in order to beat them.

The Catalans have been widely lauded for their slick tiki-taka passing, but Rooney believes it is Barca's ability to defend as a unit which has made them such a fearsome force.

The morning arrives, and Daksh as usual is sitting alone at the dining table. The doting mother rushes back and forth from the kitchen table to the dining table, and places a mug of coffee on his table and tells him, she will bring his breakfast. This serial may have appeared to have gone off the track, but now I realize that they intended it, just to wrench our hearts, at the degree to which certain people can go to get their ends, and when people live in their own worlds, not realizing what happens elsewhere or in other people's minds, we get into situations like these, and perhaps that was the intention of the producers who have maintained their high production quality throughout, to draw our attention to this fact, that they have introduced characters like Rohini and Sonakshi. Even her own parents, are shown to be living in a dream world, while their daughter is taking a devious path.

The scene shifts to the peaceful surroundings of Darjeeling. Anjali is in her room, and her maid, Radha goes to call her for the meals, and she tells her to serve herself, as she will wait for Naina who has not yet come back, even as it is turning dark, and the sun is setting in the mountains. Bill Clinton, seemingly preening about himself, takes a devious shot at Obama.

This article, "Bill Clinton wants more credit" is topping Drudge under the heading "I want more credit." But let's see what's really going on here. Midway in the piece, there's this quote:

"I'm telling you this to point out that we need a coherent narrative... The No. 1 rule of effective politics, especially if the people you're running against have a simple narrative — that government is always the problem, there is no such thing as a good tax or a bad tax cut, there's no such thing as a good program or a bad program cut, no such thing as a good regulation or a bad deregulation — if you're going to fight that, your counter has to be rooted in the lives of other people...."

So... he wants stories and anecdotes, not a countervailing simple message?

"We need to understand that one of the things that tends to tilt things toward the Republicans' anti-government narrative is our country was born out of a suspicion of government... King George's government was not accountable to us. That's what the Boston tea party was about. When the tea party started out, at least they were against unaccountable behavior from top to bottom. Then it morphed into something different. If you want to go against that grain, you've got to tell people you understand it's a privilege and a responsibility to spend their tax money, but there's some things we have to do together. Of course he's right about the purpose of government. The real difference of opinion is about how gigantically huge that pile of "things" is.

Snow, snow, and more snow

The University of Arkansas is closed today due to the unbelievable amount of snow falling in Arkansas right now. I heard on the news this morning that we received around 25 inches last year. This was a record breaking year. We may receive over 2 feet with this storm. This year's snow totals will obliterate last year's. This area of the country is not equipped for this type of weather. We do not have the plows to keep up with the snow fall. Everyone is encouraged to stay home. Roads are currently impassable in may areas. Most often, it will snow and then melt away the next day. Temperatures have been staying cold enough that the snow is accumulating and occurring on top of what we had last week. In northern areas of the US, this is normal. It is not typical in this part of the country. Next week we are expecting 50-60 degree temperatures. Tomorrow it is supposed to be below zero in the morning. Until it warms up, we are stuck.

It is a beautiful snow, though. The snow is expected to continue until this afternoon or evening. It's not finished yet. I have tried to upload photos but it is not currently working. I'll try again later.
